说起 CTeX，中国的很多 TeXers 并不感到陌生。CTeX 最早是从一个网站起步的，而并不是一个组织。但是在过去几年中，CTeX 在我们众多会员的一起努力下迅速成长，其现有规模已经完成可以保证它以一个组织的形式存在了。
2006 年，CTeX 达到了发展的巅峰。我们拥有着全国最大、最全面的资源库；在我们的论坛上有着国内最优秀的 TeX 技术人员；ctex 宏包的技术也处于顶先的地位。但是我们并不安于现状，我们希望为用户提供更好的服务，我们希望更充分的发挥我们拥有的资源，我们希望 CTeX 更有影响力，我们更期望 CTeX 能成为学术界的一块牌子。这些想法驱使我们在 CTeX 网站的基础上正式组织“中文 CTeX 学会”。
由于很多法律上的原因，中文 CTeX 学会现在并不完全拥有实体，但是我们正在努力建立完善的运作机制，并不断向建立真正的实体做出努力。
CTeX is not unfamiliar to many TeXers in China. CTeX originated as a website, not an organization. But over the years, it has been growing fairly rapidly with the contribution of our members, and its scale is now grand enough to warrant its existence as an organization.
2006 witnessed CTeX reaching the pinnacle. We have the nation’s largest and most complete knowledgebase; we have some of the top TeXnicians on our online forumn; and the technology of the ctex package is in the leading position. But as we look ahead, we aren’t satisfied with what we have – we want to constantly improve the quality of the service we provide to our members; we want to make full use of the resource we have; we want CTeX to be more influential than it is now; we want to make “CTeX” a popular logo in the academy. These ideas propels us to organize “The Chinese TeX Society” based on the CTeX website.
随着我们的努力，我们希望中文 TeX 学会在中国的学术环境下扮演四个不同的角色：
作为学术组织，中文 TeX 学会专注于研究与开发 (R&D)。我们的主要项目包括 CTeX 套装与 ctex 宏包。我们还拥有许多学者在这一领域中做着自己的研究，并将他们的成果通过我们的论坛和网站发布。（最著名的包括张林波教授的 CCT。）我们也鼓励并帮助我们的会员进行研究与开发。
作为推广者，中文 TeX 学会专注于扩大 CTeX 用户群。我们并不想用 TeX 来取代 Microsoft Office，即使是在数学领域。我们的目标仅仅是让更多人知道 TeX 是 Office 之外的一个很好的选择。
作为传授者与资源库，我们向会员介绍有用的文献与书籍；我们为不擅长外语的会员翻译重要的资源；我们还通过在线论坛为新手及高级用户提供完整的
FAQ 机制。
作为协调者，中文 TeX 学会将与主要的出版商建立联系，并帮助他们创建类文件以及模板来减少他们使用 TeX 平台的困难，让使用 TeX 投稿在中国成为可能。
With our constant effort, we hope that the Chinese TeX Society will play four major roles in the academic setting of China:
As an academic organization, the CTEX Society focuses on research and development (R&D). Our current major projects include the CTeX Suite and the ctex package. Our many scholars conduct their own research in the field and release what they find and create into the public through our online forum and website. (Among the most remarkable includes CCT created by Dr. Linbo Zhang.) We also encourage and assist our members in their own research efforts.
As a popularizer, the CTEX Society is dedicated to enlarging the TeX user base. We do not intend to replace Microsoft Office Word with TeX in any way, even in the field of mathematics. Our major aim is merely to let people know that TEX is an option that is readily available.
As an instructor and open resource, we introduce helpful documentation and books to our members; we translate essential resource for those who are not experts in foreign languages; and we provide a complete
FAQ mechanism for beginners as well as advanced users through our online forum.
As a coordinator, the CTeX Society shall establish connection with major publishers, and help them create class files as well as templates to ease their effort in transitioning onto the TeX platform, making submission with TeX a possibility in China.
